Student Voice on the Opportunities and Benefits of Online and Distance Education during the Pandemic

Description:

The session will have short reflections by students on how they survived the pandemic, which lessons need to be taken into the future with us in HE, and the experience and reflections on the challenges that they had, in order to foster discussions on how to facilitate online studies in the future. Besides students, we will have short intermediate presentations about student surveys implemented after the first year of pandemic that were taken as immediate and timely reflections by students on the national and institutional and/ or program level.

Airina Volungevičienė
EDEN Digital Learning Europe

Prof. dr. Airina Volungevičienė has been working among leading researchers, methodology specialists and education policy makers in the area of technology enhanced learning (TEL) development in Europe and Lithuania since 1997. Having established Lithuanian Association of Distance and eLearning Association (LieDM association) in (2010), she continued as a leader in research and project work to promote the development of TEL in Lithuania and Europe, introducing many innovations in different education organizations from school, VET, adult learning and higher education sectors. Her main responsibilities at Vytautas Magnus University is to direct the Institute for Study Innovations activities to implement its mission: to advise University teachers to design online study curriculum, to ensure online learning and teaching, as well as curriculum quality, and to experiment with the innovations in education before mainstreaming them in university studies. Airina has been involved in EDEN Governance since 2009, as the Board member, Vice President for Research (2016 – 2019) and the President (2016 – 2019).

Orna Farrell
Dublin City University, Ireland
Dr Orna Farrell is Assistant Professor specialising in online and blended education in Dublin City University (DCU). Orna holds a PhD in Education from Trinity College Dublin. Currently, Orna is Head of the Open Education Unit at Dublin City University, which provides online programmes to off campus students through the DCU Connected platform. She is deputy chair of the European Distance and E-Learning (EDEN) Network of Academics and Professionals (NAP) committee


Sinead Lynch
Student at Dublin City University, Ireland
Sinead Lynch is in her third year of study on the DCU Connected Humanities (Psychology Major) programme. A passionate advocate of inclusive further education, she is a founding member, and current chairperson, of the recently launched DCU Connected Society. She has acted as a class representative throughout her three years of study, and has been instrumental in the expansion of representation within the Connected student body.


Ausra Rutkiene
Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania
Aušra Rutkienė is Assoc. Prof. at Education Academy at Vytautas Magnus University (Lithuania) since 2009. She is involved in students’ teaching at BA, MA and PhD levels, in management of MA programme Educational Management, and research in the field of education. Personal research areas: adult learning, technology enhanced learning, quantitative research methodology and data analysis. Took part in several European and national programmes and projects (FP6, ERASMUS+, TEMPUS). She is producing documents at university and national levels, carrying out studies, organising events to learn from projects and making visible results and findings on national and international levels. Ausra Rutkiene is co-author of several monographs, research studies, textbook, and number of national and international publications.


Vusala Idrisli
Student at Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania
Vusala Idrisli, student from Baku, Azerbaijan. In 2016, she graduated from the English language and literature teaching program at Qafqaz University (bachelor), Azerbaijan. Following that, she worked as a teacher at 2 different international education institutions in Baku, Azerbaijan. She is 28 years old and now she is in her second year of a master’s degree in Educational management at VMU.


Tamari Ivanidze
Student at Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania
Tamari Ivanidze is from Georgia. She has worked as an English teacher for 5 years. She also worked as a business and social program specialist in the Union of Blinds of Georgia. Her responsibility was to implement the short-term educational projects. She is a second year student in MA programme Educational Management at VMU. She has been involved in Erasmus + project “Developing Programs for Access of Disadvantaged Groups of People and Regions to Higher Education” (561547-EPP-1-2015-1-IL-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP) for 2 years .


Lina Kaminskienė
The Chancellor of Education Academy at Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania
The Chancellor of Education Academy at Vytautas Magnus University. Works at VMU since 2008. Chair of the department since 2014 and the director of the Institute of Education since 2017.  Prof. Lina Kaminskienė is very active in international academic and research projects, is interested in personalisation of learning and social stakeholder cooperation.


Sandra Lovrenčić
Vice-dean for education, Faculty of Organisation and Informatics University of Zagreb, Croatia.
Sandra Lovrenčić is a Vice-dean for education and students and Full Professor at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Organization and Informatics in Varaždin, Croatia. She is also a head of Centre for volunteering and humanitarian work at the Faculty and serves as a member in Education Committee of The International Association for Ontology and its Applications. She holds Master and PhD degrees in Information Science. Her main research interests are knowledge representation and reasoning, as well as knowledge management in general.
