Open Education Week 2023 – “Open Educational Practices as a Catalyst for Innovation”

Description

This webinar provides an introduction to the concept of open educational practices (OEPs) as a catalyst for innovation. Participants will gain an understanding of how open educational practices can be used to increase access to quality educational resources, foster collaboration, and encourage innovation. We will discuss the benefits of OEPs, the challenges associated with them, and the ways in which they can be implemented in educational contexts. Participants will also learn about the opportunities for educators to create and share open educational resources, as well as the potential impact of OEPs on educational institutions, communities, and society. Finally, we will explore how open educational practices can be used to promote equity, inclusivity, and diversity in education.

Vlad Mihaescu, Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania, EDEN DLE MB Member

 

Vlad Mihaescu has a Ph.D. in educational and technological models of MOOCs and has more than 15 years of experience as a trainer and teacher in areas like multimedia technologies, social media, e-tourism, e-learning, usability, entrepreneurship, programming, soft skills, leadership, and project management. Author of over 35 scientific papers and book chapters published in international conferences and journals, Vlad is involved in several European research projects in the field of eLearning, digital culture, and digital entrepreneurship. He is also an associate professor at UPT. For over 10 years, Vlad has been part of the technical support team of the UPT Virtual Campus (Moodle). Since 2020, Vlad has served in the position of Chair of the Steering Committee of EDEN’s NAP (Network of Academics and Professionals) and a member of the Executive Board of EDEN, organizing several workshop, webinars, and participating as a speaker or moderator in EDEN events. Vlad was the Local Conference Manager for EDEN’s AC in 2020. Vlad is also the director of the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer at UPT.

Fabio Nascimbeni, European Training Foundation, Italy, EDEN Senior Fellow

 

Fabio Nascimbeni works as Human Capital Development Expert at the European Training Foundation (ETF), where he mainly focuses on digitalisation and learning innovation activities. He is a Senior Fellow of the European Distance and eLearning Network (EDEN) and a Fellow of the CEST centre of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and of the Nexa Centre of the Politecnico di Torino in Italy. Fabio has been active in the field of learning innovation and digital education since 1998, collaborating with different universities and with international institutions such as the European Commission, the ILO and UNICEF. He has designed and coordinated more than 50 research and innovation projects across Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, the South Mediterranean and South East Asia. His main research interests are open education, learning innovation, digital literacy, digital inclusion.

Diana Andone, Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania

Diana Andone is the Director of the eLearning Center of Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania, responsible for planning and implementing eLearning and the online learning technologies thorough the university award winning Virtual Campus CVUPT. She is also associate professor at the Politehnica University of Timisoara, Romania, in the area of multimedia, interactive and web technologies. She has an extensive research experience with intense publication (over 17 books, 80 research papers, 11 Best paper Awards) and more than 30 research and educational projects. She is passionate about the ubiquitous access to technologies and how they can be used to improve people’s life. She actively promotes the use of OERs, MOOCs and the open education principles, training for digital skills, acting in international associations EDEN, IEEE and actively supporting the local start-up movement, women in tech and STEM education.

Carmen Holotescu, University “Ioan Slavici” Timisoara, Romania

 

Carmen Holotescu is a Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Engineering, Director of the Center for Open Education and Blockchain part of the „Ioan Slavici” University of Timișoara, Romania with a PhD on new technologies and open education. She has participated in many European projects and has a rich experience in designing and implementing learning and collaborative platforms based on open pedagogies. She has written over 100 articles and chapters/books related to eLearning/Blended Learning, Social Media, Open Educational Resources (OER), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) and Blockchain, mentioned in more than 2,500 citations. She is an online certified instructor of the University of Maryland University College, USA, facilitating for 12 years online courses at this university.

Fiona Schmidbauer, Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University, Germany

 

Fiona Schmidbauer is a researcher at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in the Department of Educational Management and Lifelong Learning. She studied pedagogy and educational science with a minor in sociology at LMU Munich. After her Bachelor’s degree, she worked as a consultant for e-learning at the University of Applied Sciences Munich, where she developed an e-learning concept for personnel development and was involved in the implementation of a knowledge management platform. After her Master’s degree, she started working in the ENCORE+ project as lead researcher on the issue of quality of OER (Open Educational Resources).
